Piano Notes
Vol. 3, No. 1 Fall 2007
Welcome and Welcome back!
The studio population has changed over the past couple years. We have added new students, said good bye to others, and enjoyed some wonderful interim students. Farewell and best wishes to you in your musical endeavors! Welcome new and returning friends. I anticipate a wonderful year of enriched learning and getting to know your talents and personalities.
Studio Updates & Reminders
New Award Opportunities
The studio has new awards available for all the hard work the students do through out the year. There are two posters in the entrance to the studio; one to record attendance and one to record if practice agreements (contracts - don't be scared by the word!) have been met. Also 2 medals will be given for memorization of the most pieces in the year: One for a student 10 or older and one age 9 or under. These will be given out at the annual spring recital.
Important Dates
- October 12 - Deadline for Gold Cup Festival. Is your name on the list yet? If you want to be in this event, be sure you are on the list. The fee is $23 this year. See Mrs. D's Middle C's
- November 1 - Deadline for National Guild Auditions. Fees and applications due. National headquarters has raised the fees, approximately $5 per student. This year's syllabus and detailed information should be in the studio in October. See
Students Be in Charge of Your Lesson!
Mrs. D wants all of you to get the most out of your lesson time as well as keep lessons moving smoothly and on time. Rarely, should anyone have to wait past their lesson time to get started. You can help make this work well if you do two things: 1) practice at home the assigned work and 2) have your books prepared before your lesson by doing the following:
- open each book to the page(s) assigned
- stack them in the order the lesson follows, which is
- Lesson or Piano in front,
- Theory behind lesson,
- Technic behind Theory, and
- Performance, Recital or Solo last.
- Sheet music, if you have it
Mrs. D is happy to demonstrate the process to anyone not already doing it. However, Mrs. D. will no longer prepare the books for students who are capable of doing this on their own. If you are 9 or older, please start this procedure for your next lesson. You will be glad you did in the long run.
Studio Library
If you have borrowed books/sheet music from
the studio, please add your name to the "check out" list.
Record the name of the book and date you borrowed it. If you have
studio music that you are NOT using, please return it. This
is especially important if you have current Gold Cup Festival music! I hope to be able to loan
out scale, etude, and exercise books, as well as literature and composer
series material.
