Mrs. D’s Middle C’s
National Federation of Student Music Clubs (NFSMC)
Mrs. D’s Middle C’s is the studio’s junior music club, holding both national and NYS memberships. This junior festival is for students whose teachers are members of the National Federation of Music Clubs. This event is in recital format so friends and family can watch students perform. Each student plays 2 memorized pieces, of which one must be chosen from the National Federation’s list of required repertoire.
This is the “Gold Cup” Festival you may have heard of. It also includes “Silver Cup” for adults, as of 2007. It is adjudicated (judged) and students earn points towards trophies. The highest attainable points per year is 5. The first trophy is received at 15 points, so if a student enters this year and receives all 5 points, then enters and repeats the top score next year and the year following, s/he then gets a trophy, or “gold/silver cup”.
For a successful event, remember these important tips:
- Dress appropriately (no jeans, sneakers, sweats or hoodies; dress as if for a school concert or church event. Ladies, if wearing pants or skirt and top, make sure your top is long enough to cover any gaps for when you sit on the piano bench).
- Arrive early (at least 15 minutes) to check in, find restrooms if necessary and locate recital room.
- Bring your music. Even though you play from memory, the judges need to see your music. NO PHOTO COPIES. Any student with a photocopy will be disqualified and not allowed to perform.
- Have Fun! If you enjoy it, so will your audience and judges. Remember I am so proud of you!
