Piano Notes
Vol.1, No. 3
Nov/Dec 2005
Welcome to the third issue of Piano Notes. Students and families, if you would like to publish something here, it's your newsletter too, so call or email with the info you want to share (e.g.. honor roll, special achievements in school and other activities, church events, suggestions for the website or studio, etc).
Katrina Relief Playathon - Saturday, November 19
Denton, Cottier and Daniels sponsored a playathon fundraiser to help the victims of recent hurricanes. Students and teachers from the Rochester area got sponsors and helped raise over 4,000 dollars, which will be matched by an education foundation, and sent on via the American Red Cross and Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation.
Students from the studio that helped with this effort included Maria Leonardo, Caitlin and Veronica Phillips, Kirsten Reimers, and Alexandra Webb. Mrs. D, in an attempt to keep up with these students, also got sponsors and played in this fun and worthwhile event. She thanks you all for your time and efforts helping others by sharing your talents. And to all parents and sponsors -- THANK YOU!!!
Gold Cup Festival Preparation
Please mark your calendars. The Federation's Gold Cup Festival is on Saturday, February 4, at the Pittsford Community Church on Marsh Road. Our registration fees ($20 per student) are due now. I will be sending in a payment to cover everyone on December 1, along with student names, levels and pieces being played.
If you have not yet paid the registration fee, please do so at your next lesson. All pieces (required repertoire and choice pieces need to be decided upon by now).
Schedule Updates & New Students
There are a couple updates in the schedule and a couple new students J. This happens occasionally, so remember to check the Master Schedule, here on the site, regularly or ask for a paper copy at the studio.
We welcome to the studio, 2 new students, Michael Coffey and Chase Jarrett (a returning student). Welcome!
National Piano Guild Auditions - Spring 2006
Our registrations for Guild will be due soon too (January 31st at the latest). Students can use repertoire they've already learned for other recitals or Gold Cup, but need to decide how many pieces by the first of January. We will be doing this together throughout December at the lessons. The number of pieces and musicianship level determines the fee (most range from $17 to $24). I have descriptions of this event that I will be going over with students and sending home for parents as well.
Specific dates and times will be sent to the studio a couple weeks after registrations are received (tentative dates May 1 through May 13). Mrs. D. will ask for Saturdays, but they tend to fill up quickly. If a school day is scheduled, forms will be provided for excusal from classes for the scheduled times.
Holidays
Mrs. D. hopes you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and break. With Hanukah, Christmas, and New Years upon us, enjoy the music of the season. Have a wonderful time with your families and a nice winter break. After the break we'll start the brand new year together and continue getting ready for Gold Cup and Guild Auditions. Be sure to check the "Closings" for the studio's break time, which should coincide with the school closings.
And don't forget, playing the holiday music, counts as practice too!
