Piano Notes
Vol. 1, No. 1
May 2005

Welcome to the first issue of Piano Notes.  It was a long time coming and is still not everything I hoped it would be.  This first issue will serve as a test run.  Your feedback is welcome.  Improvements/changes will be made as students/parents/studio see appropriate.  If you would like to publish something here, it's your newsletter too, so email Mrs. D with the information you want published.

Important Dates

June 5  2 pm, Faith Lutheran Church, 2576 Browncroft Blvd.

This is our annual Spring recital.  Most of the students have picked 2 pieces and memorized them for this event.  If you are a student or parent reading this and realize pieces are not selected/being memorized, know this will take top priority at the next lesson.

June 6 - July 11

Studio Break.  This year the studio will be closed after the spring recital (June 5) until  Monday, July 11.  Please inform Mrs. D. by June 3 whether you will be taking a break or having piano instruction throughout the summer session, so the schedule can be set before the 11th.  The Summer Schedule will be posted by July 5 here on the site.

Policy Changes

An increase in tuition is necessary and will commence July 11, 2005.  The new rate is $35/hour, $26.25/forty-five minutes and $17.50/half hour. With 25+ people playing the studio piano each week, more tunings and piano maintenance are necessary.  The studio has not increased fees since opening in 2002 and does not anticipate doing so again until 2010.

Students, Help!

Mrs. D would like to assure you are all getting the most out of your lesson time as well as keep lessons moving on time so nobody has to wait past their lesson time.  You can help make this happen if you have your books prepared before your lesson by doing the following:

Mrs. D will be happy to demonstrate the process to students who aren't already doing it.  For those that are . . . Thank you.  You save time and learn more at your lessons because you are prepared.  A special thanks goes to those students who come in and play their well practiced scale first, while Mrs. D reviews the lesson notes from the previous week.  The scales help our minds and fingers start working together so we can tackle the lesson with more confidence and dexterity.
